When plastics and sustainability are mentioned in the same sentence, it usually means no good. Some of our immediate links are: landfill, plastic soup in the ocean or chemical waste. Not many people realize that plastics are also a big help in sustainability. In 2020, the EU wants to reach the goal of saving 780 million tons of CO2. It all starts with greener living standards.
How can plastics help the efficient use of energy?
- Plastic is perfect for effective insulation from cold and heat and prevention of air leakage.
- What do you think wind turbines’ rotor blades and photovoltaic panels are made of? The answer: large amounts of plastics.
- If it weren’t for effective plastics food packaging, much, much food would go wasted. Plastics food packaging delivers more efficient protection, and extends shelf life.
- To produce plastics, less energy needs to be produced than other materials, especially in applications such as transport, building and construction, electronic devices and packaging.
The saying goes, ‘a better world starts with you’. That’s easy. Make sure our plastic garbage doesn’t end in te landfill, but gets recycled.
